    Meet Pearl

We went to the Humane Society of Weld County on the 6th of May to just “look” at some of the dogs available for adoption. I had a few smaller dogs picked out that I wanted to see but as soon as we walked in all the dogs I wanted to see got adopted within the first 10 minutes of us being there. We decided to go browse and see what else they had anyway. Most of the dogs were jumping up on the window and barking at us as soon as we passed by their kennel. Except one. She just turned around and looked me in the eye and…

    My Molly is gone

Molly wasn’t eating her food like usual and was sleeping. She was sleeping a lot. I decided to take her to the vet. The vet took X-rays and bloodwork. Fluid was building up around her heart and lungs, probably due to some sort of cancer the vet said. Her liver enzymes were 6 times higher than normal. It was a Friday when this happened. Friday morning. I asked the question I knew I needed to ask. Is this the end? Yes, the vet replied. This is the end. I said, let’s schedule the appointment for Monday. I needed to have the weekend with her. I needed enough time to say…

Doctor’s appointments and new karate belts

It has been one very very busy day today. It started off with a snowstorm and a very brisk cold morning. I had to drive to Fort Collins for my appointment with my bariatric doctors and dietitian. It went so well, they are just so awesome there. My dietitian feels that I’m on the right track and I’ve lost another 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. There were some issues with my blood tests, however. I’m extremely low in iron even taking a multivitamin and iron supplements. According to some of my other blood work, I’ve been severely anemic for years and it’s a bigger issue than I realized.…

    Family camping trip

Last weekend, we went camping in one of our favorite areas west of Loveland. We bought our popup camper just a few days before I discovered I’d be having surgery on my hip. Since it took all summer to recover from hip surgery we had to keep delaying taking the camper out for the first time. I feel like we were waiting until the very last second but I didn’t want to wait until next summer. So we packed up the kids and we were off. I overpacked and brought way too much food, so I’ll know better next time. Still, it was an amazing time, and memories were made.…

    Parent-Teacher Conferences

I’m realizing how unnecessary and draining worry is and I was shown an example of that last night. When I was a kid there were a LOT of worries when I watched my folks walk out that door knowing they would be speaking to my teacher. About me. ALONE. I would be a mess of nerves and anxiety the whole time they were gone. As soon as they pulled into the driveway I would watch them from the window glued to their faces searching for any hint or clue as to how the meeting went. I’m not sure why I was always so worried. I always got the “talks too…

The day before school … I’m a wreck!

I keep checking Tristyn’s backpack to make sure he has everything. I’ve checked his school supply list a dozen times today. Yes, he has everything. We dropped off most of the items when we went to his school’s open house. He got to sit down at his desk and meet his teacher. Mrs. G is going to be awesome. I’m still a wreck. I’ve double, triple, 10000x checked all the websites I’m supposed to be signed up to track his progress and his school lunches. Every time I check I’m reminded that I haven’t forgotten anything. He has his masks, he has his water bottle, everything has his name on…

It got so busy so fast

Having two little kids close in age is a handful in itself. They are busy, they are needy, and it’s a constant buzz of distractions and mundane chores on repeat. I had no idea what was coming. Tristyn is of Kindergarten age and in our county, he couldn’t start until this year. I thought I was early in getting him registered for school. I’ve learned so much in the past week. After a 4.5-hour online registration process, he is finally enrolled for his Fall 2021 Kindergarten year. Just…not at the school I wanted him to be in. So now we are on a waitlist. I just might be homeschooling again…
